Job Overview

A full time Post Doc Fellow position is available in the NIH-funded laboratory of Dr. Tom Cunningham in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Cincinnati College to investigate the role of deregulated cellular metabolism in disease. The successful candidate will be joining a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team of researchers comprised of computational biologists, molecular and cell biologists, biochemists, and cancer biologists. Our team employs in silico, in vitro, and in vivo models to study the metabolic underpinnings of disease with a current focus on disorders associated with deregulated nucleotide metabolism.

It is expected that the Post Doc Fellow will assist Dr. Cunningham with his research goals. However, wide latitude will be granted for the Post Doc Fellow to establish their own independent research directions within the scope of the lab’s interests. The Post Doc Fellow will conduct research and/or analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee, so a strong emphasis will be placed on selecting and training a Post Doc Fellow that possesses the competence and capability to advance to the next stage of their career, whether it be in industry or academia.

Essential Functions

• Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
• Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
• Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
• Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
• Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
• Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
• May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
• Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
• Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.
• Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline.

Required Experience

At least one first- or co-first author publication in reputable journal (Impact Factor >5) relevant to Cunningham lab research interests, examples of which fall within the broad categories. of cancer biology, enzymology, metabolomics, genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, animal models of disease, or molecular biology.

Additional Qualifications Considered

• Attainment of extramural pre-doctoral funding or other award during graduate school considered a bonus.
• Laboratory environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
