Job Summary:

The Post-Award Research Accountant is an integral member of the Research Administration team in the School of Pharmacy. This team handles all sponsored research tasks from “cradle to grave” and relies on this position to help with management of and assistance with all post-award activities. This position handles Department level and Divisional level tasks for approximately 40 Principal Investigators.

Responsibilities: Works with researchers, departments, and centers to monitor and reconcile data for sponsored programs at the school/college/divisional level. Reviews and approves financial transactions submitted from departments or centers. May interact directly with project sponsors related to detailed financial reporting, invoicing, and/or auditing on behalf of the unit to ensure compliance.

  • 30% Communicates and ensures financial requirements per federal, state, university, and sponsor regulations are followed on behalf of the school/college or division
  • 15% Ensures the departmental or divisional post-award processing or tasks are done appropriately and timely
  • 10% Reviews and approves financial transactions such as managing fiscal closeout of awards and projects
  • 35% Advises departments or researchers on appropriate post-award modifications and relevant processing
  • 10% Collects or prepares documentation required for compliance or audits on sponsored grants, contracts, or agreements

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree or at least 3 years of relevant professional experience required in lieu of degree

Qualifications:

Required:
– Minimum of 1 year of research administration accounting
– Effective oral and written communication skills
– Professional level and highly efficient use of Microsoft Office programs
– Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and prioritize workload
– Ability to engage in independent problem solving and analysis
– Ability to remain highly organized through attention to detail and management of tasks
– Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Preferred:
– Experience with grants, contracts, and sponsored research; federal and non-federal sponsors/agencies; program, budgetary, regulatory, and compliance requirements
– Previous experience in academic institution
– Experience and knowledge of UW-Madison accounting system

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
This position requires some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location, up to 2.5 days, if preferred.

Salary:

Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
