Background
The Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH), a research institution affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is situated in Guangzhou, China. As located in the southern region, Guangzhou holds historical, cultural, and economic significance for the country. GIBH strives to implement the “Healthy China” strategy and address public health needs. Its research focuses on investigating pathological mechanisms and developing innovative solutions for disease prevention and control. Furthermore, GIBH offers a world-class core facility and research and development (R&D) platform in the field of biomedicine, and it also serves as a catalyst for global bioengineering and pharmaceutical industries as well as for cutting-edge, strategic-driven research.
GIBH oversees the establishment of Human Cell Lineage Atlas Facility (CLAF), a crucial component of the International Innovation and Technology Hub located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The facility’s primary purpose is to facilitate fundamental and applied research in the field of life sciences, with a particular focus on advancing high-tech industries, such as biomedicine and medical instrumentation. By supporting scientific research and fostering innovation in China, CLAF is anticipated to sustain the country’s international prominence and proficiency in life sciences.
CLAF aims to develop the necessary hardware and expertise to establish a worldwide open platform that facilitates cutting-edge scientific and technological advancements. This platform aims to foster cutting-edge scientific and technological advancements in the field of molecular tissue biology at the single-cell level. It aims to incorporate spatial omics data within the analysis of cell types, their developmental trajectories, ageing processes, and pathological conditions. As an open facility, CLAF has the vision of becoming an international hub for academic exchange and collaboration, a centre for talent acquisition and training, and an incubator for industrial innovation.
