PON NPI Test Engineering is responsible for delivering test automation software to produce Ciena’s portfolio of PON (Passive Optical Network) products, which enable FFTx (Fiber-to-the-x) architectures for our ISP and data center customers. The group develops test automation and tools, defines test specifications, produces hardware and software documentation as well as supporting production at the factories of our contract manufacturing partners.

How You Will Contribute:

This position is based in our Ottawa office and requires your presence every day. Remote work or telecommuting options are not available for this role.

The exact role will be structured depending on the strengths of the successful candidate but will include:

Hands-on product and automation testing

Configuration and validation of test stations and equipment

Documentation of test processes and test station design changes

Development of manufacturing software and related backend deployment and data services

The Must Haves:

Completed 2nd year of a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics, electrical/optical engineering, or a related technical field

Fundamental knowledge of the operation of optical components

Software skills in Python and Github

Assets:

Proficiency/enjoyment in practical assignments (lab work)

Enjoyment of problem solving

Program debugging skills

Proficiency in optical and electrical testing techniques

Software skills and familiarity in associated toolchains– C#, GitHub Actions/Jenkins, REST APIs, TensorFlow/ML, Jira

Familiarity with various test and automation instruments: BERTs, oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, optical switches, variable attenuators, optical power meters, fiber inspectors, multimeters
