About the Role: 

The Plus Program Advisor is responsible for developing and maintaining community partnerships, exploring and securing community engagement opportunities for students in the Plus Programs, as well as creating and executing communications plans to promote the program. 

The Plus Program Advisor will: 

  • Meet the annual target of securing community engagement opportunities for student volunteer placements; 
  • Work with community partners to identify volunteer placement needs, develop appropriate volunteer job descriptions; 
  • Assess student interests and abilities in community engagement volunteer placements, recommend placement opportunities; 
  • Partner with the volunteer supervisors and students to work through interpersonal conflicts, gather pertinent information from both parties and mediate issues as they arise; 
  • Act as a first point of contact for community partners to ensure the needs are met by providing quality service, managing and fostering relationships through regular contact and follow up; 
  • Identify, promote and coordinate opportunities for community partners to gain visibility on campus by attending guest speaking and recruitment events, and/or participating in information sessions; 
  • Provide mentoring opportunities for senior students to mentor incoming students, including providing training and ongoing support 
  • Develop, track and analyze key metrics related to program effectiveness, efficiency, conversion and placement rates; generate reports and provide recommendation to the Manager, Co-Curricular Experiential Learning & Programs for future improvement; 
  • Facilitate career workshops to small and large groups of students, including but not limited to career planning, resume/cover letter writing, interview techniques, job search, networking strategies, skills translation, etc. as needed; 
  • Critique, edit and review resumes, applications and cover letters for students and recent graduates; applying knowledge of industry language/terminology, interpreting content and offering creative alternatives for style and effect; 
  • Conduct individual, face-to-face mock interviews; develop and pose interview questions to students based on industry/job type, provide immediate feedback on student performance, provide suggestions for improvement; and 
  • Provide guidance/advice on the career planning and job search process; networking, professional etiquette, wage negotiation, decision-making. 

Key Skills and Experience: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 
  • Experience developing community partnerships and supporting student placements in a career advising role 
  • Knowledge of effective resume and cover letter screening/development is required to provide career advice to students; 
  • Experience conducting interviews and providing feedback; 
  • Solid computer competency including word processing, spreadsheet, database, web applications and web maintenance, social media, internet search engines; 
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals; 
  • Judgment in determining applicant status in the application process; evaluating interview outcomes, and in making placement recommendations to the community contacts and 
  • Maintain the highest level of accuracy and alertness for decisions made, information given, materials processed.

Please note: This position requires working non-standard hours, including shifts that may extend until 7 p.m. from April to September. 

Preferred or Asset Skills: 

  • Career Development Practitioner’s certification; 
  • Human Resources certification; 
  • Professional resume writing certification. 

Salary and Total Rewards: 

  • Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($); $52,765- $71,040 
  • Target Hiring Range: $
