Planning Analyst

  • Full time, continuing position as a Planning Analyst in the Planning, Policy and Fees team
  • Opportunity to utilise your experience providing professional data analysis support to staff of the University and external stakeholders
  • HEO7 – salary from $100,032 plus 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Planning Analyst provides reports and analysis for management and external enquiries, along with statistical data and information required for government reporting and other regulatory reports and analytical insights to support strategic decision making and forecasting. The position also provides guidance, coaching and advice to developing team members in order to contribute to a collaborative and end to end service focused team culture.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • ensure timely and high quality delivery of analysis and preparation of a range of reports and data downloads for internal business processes and external regulatory reporting
  • provide analytical insights and support for business cycles throughout the university, including strategic planning, budgets and forecasting, student recruitment, course development and review, fee setting and to the regulatory compliance requirements under the Higher Education Support Act and ESOS
  • contribute to the preparation of end to end planning processes and insights including coordination of statutory and management reports and data downloads drawn from the student information system, student load and revenue forecasting model, University data warehouse and business intelligence system
  • contribute to allocated special projects involving expertise in research, analysis, and model development in response to emerging requirements and establish appropriate procedures
  • participate in University committees, especially in relation to data quality and maintenance and planning and reporting matters. Proactively communicate on policy, legislation, data, and reporting matters across the university
  • identify and develop new processes and improve existing processes in response to legislative or business changes and to achieve university strategic goals. Contribute to improving the knowledge and performance of team members.

About you

  • tertiary qualifications, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in a relevant field
  • ability to use judgement and initiative in the application of other technical knowledge, skills and experience to a variety of work assignments, with highly developed computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, data management and visualisation
  • ability to work under an agile methodology approach, including working across teams as required
  • demonstrated analytic and conceptual skills, ability to think laterally and assess impacts of changing requirements and the ability to show initiative and develop recommendations based on complex data problems across interrelated planning and reporting issues
  • excellent data analysis skills to query and validate data, discover patterns and relationship within data, critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts and decompose and present high level information
  • highly developed written, verbal and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare reports of a consistently high standard and present information for senior academic and management staff
  • understanding of the use of modelling, relational database, and data warehouse technologies, e.g. SQL, Hyperion/Oracle EPM, PowerBI, Snowflake.
