Ciena is seeking a Product Engineer to work within the New Product Introduction group of the Optical Components R&D organization. Working closely with our Design team and manufacturing partners, who have responsibility for developing and maintaining manufacturing equipment and capability, the Product Engineer shall act as the lead for pulling new products from R&D and work with the various parties to plan and action the transfer to our contract manufacturer (CM) and then maintain them in production.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Lead the transition of new products from R&D to contract manufacturers (CM), ensuring successful transfer and sustained production performance.
  • Capture and analyze the physics and design intent of product designs to maintain and improve product performance over time.
  • Collaborate with design, supply chain, and CM teams to develop reliable products that meet or exceed cost objectives.
  • Manage prototype builds, communicate design-specific information to suppliers, and ensure clear-to-build processes.
  • Support failure analysis and assist local Ciena and CM engineers in resolving technical challenges.
  • Define production requirements and specifications for processes and testing in collaboration with R&D and Operations teams.
  • Track product yield, develop detailed cost reduction plans, and monitor performance against objectives.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Opto-Electronic, Electrical Engineering, or Electronic Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, manufacture, or testing of optoelectronic products.
  • Proven expertise in Product Lifecycle Management.
  • Demonstrated success in launching complex optoelectronic module products to market.

Nice to Haves:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve technical issues in high-pressure environments.
  • Experience working in a global marketplace with multi-functional, multi-locational teams.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication; knowledge of French, Spanish, or Thai is an asset.
  • Advanced computer and analytical skills, including database management and data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with production processes for optoelectronic devices.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Pay Range:

The salary range for this role in Ottawa is $73, 200 – $116, 900

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
