The Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theoryin Frankfurt/Main is a world leader in fundamental research on law. Its three research departments with more than 70 scholars, the unrivalled collections of its specialised library, and its numerous national and international co-operations make it the central research hub for a global scientific community investigating the past, present and future of legal regimes.
For the department Multidisciplinary Theory of Law, directed by Professor Dr Marietta Auer, we are looking to recruit, starting as soon as possible, a number of PhD Students (m/f/d).
Your profile
Applicants should be interested in fundamental questions of private law and be able to independently formulate a dissertation topic in this field. Applicants should have passed the first state legal exam with an “above average” score (and preferably the second state legal exam as well) or hold an equivalent German or international university degree. Moreover, one’s keen interest in carrying out independent research in the area of fundamental private law scholarship should be expressed in a compelling and original exposé of the dissertation project as well as demonstrated by publications (if available).
Our offer
PhD positions are currently paid 2,721.84€ gross, which works out to approximately 1,800.00€ after taxes. The majority of the 39-hour workweek is dedicated to carrying out the doctoral project.
The positions are fixed-term appointments for three years and can be extended for one additional year. In accordance with our works agreement, mobile working up to 40% is possible.
