The Department of Biomaterials (Director Prof. Dr. Fratzl) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany invites applications from outstanding young scientists for the position of PhD student (m/f/d) in Materials Science or Biophysics.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student in the field of Biofilm Mechanobiology. The candidate should have a MSc degree in materials science, biophysics or biotechnology or closely related fields, with an outstanding profile, a strong background and interests in

• Mechanics of soft materials or biological systems
• Engineering and instrumentation
• Computational work (data analysis)
• Interdisciplinary interactions
• Experience with bacteria or cell culture and microscopy will be an advantage but not a necessary requirement.

The position is available starting from January 2023. Payment follows TVöD (Salary Class 65% E13, 3 years).
