GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. The department ‘Biophysics (BIO)’ is looking for an
Phd student in “Radiation Biology” (all genders)

in part-time (65 %) as soon as possible.
The candidate will join the “Space Radiobiology” research group in the Biophysics department and work on the “Tumor Suppression and Subdual of Cancer” (TUSCC) project, in which we study the underlying biological mechanisms of Peto’s paradox in elephants. The focus of the project is on tumor suppressor gene TP53, its central role in DNA damage response pathways and how the recently discovered TP53 pseudogenes in elephants can impact radiation sensitivity. In addition, the candidate will be involved in radiobiology experiments at high-energy accelerator institutes and collaborate internationally with different radiobiology groups.

We offer an interesting position in an innovative, interdisciplinary and excellently equipped research group that is world leading in biophysics and radiation biology research with charged particle beams. The position is offered for 3 years.
The salary is based on the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD).
