Duties
A doctoral position with a focus on developing methods for the design and analysis of clinical studies with the aim of providing a basis for regulatory decision-making is available in the pharmacometrics group at the Department of Pharmacy.

Many decisions in clinical drug development are supported by pharmacometric analyzes of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data. These analyzes are based on longitudinal data from one or more studies in healthy volunteers and/or patients. The pharmacometric analysis on clinical data improves internal decision-making of pharmaceutical companies and makes the drug development process more efficient. Although these methods are also used by regulatory authorities, this takes place to a limited extent when it comes to whether or not a drug is to be approved. Authorities are responsible for the approval of both original medicines and generic drug products. Within this project, we intend to improve the possibilities that pharmacometric methods can form the basis for approval decisions of regulatory agencies. We have existing collaborations with authorities in both Europe and the USA that aim to develop such methodology. In this project, such collaborations will take place, as well as studies that are initiated and carried out within the research group.

The holder of a doctoral position must primarily focus on his/her research studies. Other tasks at the department, for example administration and teaching can be included to a level not exceeding 20% of the working time.

Requirements
Suitable background for the PhD position is a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, medicine, or engineering with a focus on pharmaceuticals (at least 240 credits). Alternatively, an applicant has Master’s education in pharmaceutical modelling, statistics and applied mathematics or pharmaceutical development.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and motivation on the research in pharmacometrics. Experience with statistical programing such as NONMEM and R is essential. Research experience in pharmacometric methodology development, regulatory science, software development is valuable. The applicant must be able to express themselves well, both orally and in writing, in English. Furthermore, the applicant must have good collaborative skill and presentation skill and conduct a scientific project in a structured and methodical manner in the context of international collaboration.
