Job description
At least 90% of your assignment will be dedicated to academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation on structural health monitoring of architectural glass:
Due to increasing dimensions and complexity of glazing in architectural and structural applications, the need for structural health monitoring (SHM) of glass is increasingly recognized, both in pre-fracture and post-fracture conditions. Goal of the research is to develop SHM strategies for glass structures, based on existing and novel sensor technologies; and inspired by existing SHM strategies currently already applied for e.g. concrete or composite structures.
You further support the Department in education and service assignments;
You will mainly be located at UGent (Department of Structural Engineering and Building Materials, Lab. Magnel-Vandepitte (Prof. Jan Belis, PhD), Department of Electronics and Information Systems, Center for Microsystems and Technology (Prof. Jeroen Missinne, PhD)), but also for a number of months at KU Leuven (Department of Civil Engineering, Structural Mechanics Unit (Prof. Geert Lombaert, PhD).

- You will be part of a multidisciplinary team with experts in structural glass, structural health monitoring and sensor technology;
- We offer you a doctoral scholarship with a competitive salary for a duration of maximum 4 years;
