PhD Scholarship – OPTIMA PhD with industry top-up
University of Melbourne
OPTIMA has an exciting Industry-PhD project with the Department of Defence Science and Technology Group. You will need to move fast to secure this opportunity.
You must be an Australian citizen. If you are successful in securing a University of Melbourne Scholarship, OPTIMA will provide an additional top-up of $6,000 per year.
The successful applicant will join the Soft Matter Informatics group (https://www.elliehajizadeh.com/) with OPTIMA AI Dr. Ellie Hajizadeh, Ph.D. in collaboration with Professor Kate Smith-Miles. Students in our group run model simulations to help predict and design properties of novel materials. With these models, we develop machine learning and optimization algorithms to discover new materials with more favourable properties. For this project, the student will be modelling polymer formulations to design underwater acoustic materials that meet targeted viscoelastic profiles relevant to the Department of Defence Science and Technology Group. Experience with materials science, simulations, or machine learning would be beneficial.
How to apply
This is a quick turnaround due to the university deadlines. No late applications can be accepted.
About this project
OPTIMA operates across two nodes, The University of Melbourne, Parkville and Monash University, Clayton. The DST project will be mainly based in Parkville at The University of Melbourne.
