Remuneration: The successful applicant will receive a Research Living Allowance, at current value of $30,000AUD per annum 2022 full-time rate (tax-free stipend), indexed plus allowances as per RTP stipend scholarship conditions at: www.monash.edu/graduate-research/study/scholarships/scholarship-policy-and-procedures . A tuition fee scholarship and Single Overseas Health Cover (OSHC) will be provided for a successful international awardee.
The Opportunity
This PhD scholarship is funded as part of an ARC funded Future Fellowship, Domestic and Family violence and border-related harm, led by Professor Marie Segrave.
As part of the program of research, this scholarship particularly seeks to encourage applications from potential scholars who identify as being from a migrant or refugee background.
The project will be set by the successful candidate but can broadly explore the intersections of gendered violence, migration and border control. The project proposal will be part of the assessment.
Undertaking this PhD within the context of a Future Fellowship program of research has several advantages. First, the successful candidate will be integrated into a successful research agenda that has been funded by the Australian Research Council, and will have access to funding to support fieldwork, transcription, travel, and conference attendance. Second, the candidate will benefit from expert supervision from research leaders in social science who are committed to excellence in research and supporting early career researchers to develop well rounded research and publication track records for ongoing success post-PhD. Finally, the candidate will benefit from being a part of a rich and rewarding PhD program, with other PhD students exploring intersecting areas of research that will enrich the research and scholarly experience. The candidate also benefit from being embedded in the high quality research culture of both the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre and the School of Social Sciences.

Candidate Requirements
The successful applicant will have an excellent academic track record in Social Science. Competence in qualitative research methods is desirable.
In its assessment, the selection committee will prioritise applicants who hold an Australian or equivalent international Honour’s or Master’s degree (both in a relevant field), with a significant research component and with first-class honours/H1 awarded.

Scholarship holders must be enrolled full-time and on campus. Please note: applicants who already hold a PhD will not be considered.
The successful applicant will be expected to enrol by 1 March 2023. However, there may be some flexibility as to the date of commencement.
