DTU, The Technical University of Denmark, Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship invites applicants for a 3-year PhD position on “P2X Spinouts & Impact”, starting on 1 February 2023 (or as soon as possible). This PhD project will be supervised by Associate Professor Thomas J. Howard, Head of Tech Entrepreneurship in Practice Group.
The Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship (DTU Entrepreneurship) puts evidence-based research in focus on a wide range of management, pedagogic, and policy issues related to entrepreneurship and innovation. Our research promotes technology-based entrepreneurship by generating, disseminating, and applying knowledge and competencies to education and business development within and beyond DTU.
We collaborate closely with a range of industry partners, as well as private and public organizations. We strive to develop the entrepreneurial capabilities of students, civil society, executives, researchers, and policymakers to create positive social and economic change. At the Centre, the interplay between research, education and start-ups creates a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
This PhD project is part of a large project with the VILLUM P2X Accelerator (VPX) project aiming to spinout new business in the Power-to-X space based on Danish university research and IP. Each potential spinout will receive a 2-year fellowship to spinout and commercialize their technology. This PhD will utilize this accelerator programme as the basis for the PhD data. The focus will be to characterize and conceptualize emerging business models in the P2X area as well as study the impact of the P2X accelerator on the potential spinouts supported as well as at an overall programme level. As such, the PhD project is expected to yield insights into business models and interventions that are effective in developing and commercializing technologies that can enable the green transition, while providing actionable advice to the VILLUM P2X Accelerator project. In addition, the PhD candidate is expected to investigate how the changing market conditions have impacted investment into P2X technologies over the past decades (where we have seen great volatility). By understanding the external influencing factors, it is expected that we can identify which P2X technologies, business models and funding sources/types are likely to be more resilient with respect to future disruptions.
