Offer Description

Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (The Netherlands) wants to engage an enthusiastic and competent PhD-researcher with a research project that matches on of our research programs. Specialists from several theological disciplines as Biblical Studies, Church History, Systematic Theology and Practical Theology are working in the context of the research programs. For these position,  we seek a candidate with a (research) master’s degree in Theology or a related field, who has not yet obtained a PhD degree and has a strong research profile and excellent academic qualifications and writing skills. Developing and defending a research proposal will be part of the procedure.

Specific Requirements

The selected candidates are expected to have completed a PhD thesis (which may be based on articles) by the end of the contract. Selected candidates are also expected to follow a postgraduate program and to participate in the research meetings of the research program and of the Graduate School. The trajectory leads to obtaining the degree of PhD. It is also a possibility to obtain the canonical degrees STL and STD.

For this position we offer you:

  • a position as a PhD student
  • The selected candidates will start with a contract for one year, concluded by a first-year evaluation. Upon a positive outcome, you will be offered a contract for the remaining years (2 or 3) years, depending on the previous degrees of the candidate). Concretely, candidates with a Research Master (MPhil) will be offered an additional 2 year contract. Candidates with a Professional Master’s degree will be offered an additional 3 year-contract. 
  • A position based on 0.8-1.0 of the full-time working week (32-40 hours per week);
  • A salary of a minimum of €2,541 and a maximum of €3,247 gross per month for full-time employment, based on the UFO profile PhD and salary scale PhD students of the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities . Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system for grading based on relevant education and work experience;
  • Holiday allowance (8%) and an end-of-year bonus (8.3%);
  • Holidays (41 days with a 40-hour working week);
  • A reimbursement for all sustainable commuting kilometers: walking, cycling and public transport;
  • Employees from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a tax-free allowance of 30% of their taxable wages, we apply for this compensation for you;
  • We will register you with the Civil Servants’ Pension Fund (ABP);
  • Various training courses, for example in the field of leadership skills, personal effectiveness and career development;
