About the position
A PhD research fellow position in the field of functional ferroelectric materials is available. The PhD candidate will be part of our ATRONICS project, which is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), utilizing ferroelectric domain wall as building blocks for next-generation atomic-scale electronics.
For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.
Combing different scanning probe microscopy and nano-structuring methods, the PhD candidate will perform experimental research, realizing basic proof-of-concept devices in which ferroelectric domain walls are used to control electrical currents and emulate the behavior of key electronic components such as diodes, transistors and logic gates. Beyond demonstrating individual devices, we aim to integrate multiple domain-wall devices and develop quasi-2D circuitry and networks with a higher order of complexity then is currently achievable. With this, the PhD candidate will contribute to the development of 2D functional materials for future technologies, which may play an essential role in the transition from nano- to atomic-scale electronics.
Further details about our research in the field and the techniques we are applying can be found in our recent publication; see, e.g., Nature Rev. Mater. 7, 157 (2022), Nature Mater. 19, 1195 (2020), and Nature Nanotech.13, 1028 (2018). Additional information about scientific activities and the research team can be found here.
