Description: The research projects in Microfluidics and BioMEMS (Biomedical MicroElectroMechanical Systems) Laboratory may focus on one of three aspects: microfabrication, microflows, and applications. For microfabrication, students can use semiconductor fabrication methods (e.g., photolithography), thermoplastic manufacturing processes (e.g., compression molding), or non-traditional manufacturing processes (e.g., printing). For microflows, students will study fluid behavior in the micro-scale, develop micro-valves/pumps to control and regulate microflows, or integrate components for platform development. For applications, students will develop cell isolation methods for cancer diagnosis and prognosis, design and build point-of-care devices for pathogen detection or integrate sensing elements for environmental analysis or other applications.
Restrictions/constraints: None
Knowledge and skills needed: knowledge of fluid dynamics, micro/nanotechnology, or cell biomechanics will be helpful, but not required.
How to apply: Send CV (with GPA info) and short research interest statement to Dr. Fan
