PhD in Quantum Cryptography with Electrons

Are you looking to get advanced doctorate-level training and become a future quantum engineer? We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic student to join our research team for two of our PhD projects in Quantum Computing and Cryptography.

Quantum Cryptography is one of the most impactful applications of quantum mechanics, where encryption of sensitive data is protected and secured by the laws of physics. The exchange of quantum cryptography keys has been traditionally done using photons, since the early 2000’s.

In this project, we will use single electrons to carry the quantum key information and implement this novel architecture on semiconducting platforms. Using electrons for quantum cryptography in electronic circuits at the nanoscale has never been done before. Demonstrating the feasibility of using electrons for quantum cryptography will be an important step forward towards making quantum cryptography protocols compatible with our conventional electronics.

The PhD candidate will work on aspects of Quantum Science and Technology and more specifically with high frequency electronics, ultrafast qubits in solid-state systems. The candidate will be involved in advanced nanofabrication in our state-of-the-art cleanroom

and perform experimental research and characterization of Quantum Nanoelectronic devices.

In addition the candidate will be able to visit collaborators of this project in France and Japan through placements.

The project will require both individual and group work in collaborative environments and the successful candidate should be capable of working in both environments. Experience with computer programming (C or C++ or Python or Matlab etc) or data acquisition and analysis is not essential but it is recommended.
