PhD in Computing Science – Agility in IT practice

This funded studentship is focussed on agility in software engineering. Your application can be about any aspect of IT agility related to one of our four research themes: Agile Transformation, Agile & Sustainability, Agile Work Practices or Agile & People. We are particularly interested in sustainability but project suggestions can fit into any one of the four areas. IT agility is a broad concept that can be interpreted anywhere on a spectrum from being able to sense and respond to environmental changes, to following an agile method such as Scrum or SAFe. Your research proposal needs to focus on understanding agility in practice through undertaking empirical studies in IT/SE environments.

For this studentship you will be based in Glasgow and enrolled as student in the School of Computing Science at Glasgow University. You will also be a member of the Agile Research Network, a networked research collaboration between academics at several universities, and will have regular contact with our funders the Agile Business Consortium. In all these arenas we have a supportive and inclusive research culture that aims for excellence through regular review and discussion.

Applicants will be required to have a BSc with 1 or 2.1 preferably in an IT-related subject. An interest in human and organisational aspects of software engineering practice and experience of working in industry. A Masters qualification is desirable but not essential.
