PhD Frequent Flooding Events and Community Livability

Reoccurring flooding events result into various forms of losses such as loss of life, damages to infrastructure and properties, jobs or income, disruption to social networks and environmental degradation etc. More frequent and more intense storm events, combined with increasingly dense urban environments, means that communities are facing higher levels of flood risk, as well as other liveability threats such as reduced green space and deteriorating environmental health

This study will examine the impacts of reoccurring flooding on the community members of the Cessnock areas experiencing frequent flooding events. Overarching research question – how do frequent flooding events affect community liveability and what are their coping strategies and adaptation Research Objectives

* Examine people perception and response to different levels of flood

* Examine the coping strategies and adaptions

* Examine the extent to which local policies and regulations could improve coping strategies and adaptions

PhD Scholarship details

Funding: $28,854 per annum (2022 rate) indexed annually. For a PhD candidate, the living allowance scholarship is for 3.5 years and the tuition fee scholarship is for four years. Scholarships also include up to $1,500 relocation allowance.
