About the position
A three-year PhD fellowship in ecology is available at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture, Nord University (Bodø, Norway) from January 1st. 2023.
FBA invites applications from outstanding candidates for a three-year PhD fellowship within the project: ” Functioning and resilience og cold water corals and other vulnerable habitats along the Norwegian coast: providing essential knowledge for management”.
In collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), this PhD project will investigate the spatial distribution and functionality of coastal deep water sensitive habitats (e.g. cold-water coral reefs and sponge gardens). These habitats are hot spots of biodiversity, but can respond sensitive to external stressors. In this project we will study i.a. the effect of aquaculture effluents on sensitive habitats by analysing their spatial distribution using distribution modelling. Existing ROV footage can be used to investigate the secondary production and carbon storage capacity of sensitive habitats and we will test methods for species recognition for ecosystem monitoring applications.
The position is to be located in Bodø, with several research stays at IMR in Tromsø.
