2 – Position description

The Faculteit Recht en Criminologie, Department Privaat- en economisch recht, is looking for a PhD-student with a doctoral grant. 

 

More concretely your work package, for the preparation of a doctorate, contains: 

 

Your main task is a doctoral research project. In this project, you will investigate a legal framework for compulsory treatment and guardianship that is in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. More information about that project can be found here .

In addition, you will contribute to other research in health law and family law and commit to assisting with desigining research proposals.

Finally, you will provide limited educational support, particularly in the subjects of health law and family law.

 

 

For this function, our Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) will serve as your home base. 

3 – Profile

What do we expect from you?

 

• You have obtained a master’s degree in Law (or are about to obtain one).

  You have excellent academic performance.

 

 

• You have good knowledge of English, and preferably also Dutch and French.
• You have a strong interest in disability rights, including its policy and practice dimensions.
• You are genuinely interested in conducting research; experience in this area and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach are a plus.
• You work meticulously and systematically, and you are persistent.
• You combine confidence with openness to constructive criticism from others.
• You take pride in your own achievements while appreciating the added value of working in a team.

 

 

• You have not performed any works in the execution of a mandate as an assistant, paid from operating resources, over a total (cumulated) period of more than 12 months.

4 – Offer

Are you going to be our new colleague?

 

You’ll be offered a full-time PhD-scholarship, for 12 months (extendable up to max. 48 months, on condition of the positive evaluation of the PhD activities), with planned starting date 01/09/2024. 

 

You’ll receive a grant linked to one of the scales set by the government.

 

IMPORTANT: The effective result of the doctorate scholarship is subject to the condition precedent of your enrolment as a doctorate student at the university.
