About the job

Are you interested in a PhD position and to being part of the design and implementation of next generation clinical decision support systems in cancer therapy? Functional precision medicine represents a new frontier in oncology, where the functionality of a proposed treatment is tested as much as possible in cancer patient companion models, prior to prescribing the best performing drug(s) for a particular patient. Functional precision medicine enables prioritisation among approved therapies, and drug repurposing, i.e. the use of already approved drugs for the treatment of new cancer types, and also enables the design of drug combinations consisting of drugs that are individually approved but not previously used together.

We now open a PhD position where you will be part of designing and running a clinical trial on precision medicine, where we make use of colon cancer lab cultivated cells for therapy selection. The PhD position is funded by Forskningsrådet and The Norwegian Cancer Society through the MATRIX centre . We will make use of protocols developed in our PRESORT-project, a collaboration between NTNU, St Olavs hospital and Sintef, also funded by The Research Council of Norway (Forskningsrådet). You will work together with a team of clinicians, bioinformaticians and cell lab biology researchers, including both senior researchers, post doc researchers, and other PhD candidates.

The PhD project will be central to three clinical trials currently planned, named COSENSE-1, COSENSE-2 and COSENSE-3. All three trials are designed to be prospective trials, with patient inclusion starting early 2024.

Your immediate leader is associate professor Åsmund Flobak
