Job description
The LEGENDARE program is funded by an Advanced European Research Council (ERC) Grant to discover new ways to understand, prevent and treat skeletal fragility. You will combine epidemiological and clinical approaches within a translational framework linking together research from population-based studies and from patients visiting the Department of Internal Medicine of Erasmus MC.
You will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art imaging data obtained with an EOS Edge system , perform clinical assessments of bone quality on patients and the possibility to develop an Skeletal Fragility Assessment- Tool integrating these novel clinical assessments with genetic data. Most of the activities will take place within the Rotterdam Study , Erasmus MC Bone Center and the LUMC Centre for Bone Quality . Activities and tasks include among others: recruit research participants; perform measurements on patients with unsolved conditions leading to bone fragility; collect and analyze data; work in collaboration with a network of leading experts in the field of musculoskeletal research; and publish discoveries.

Requirements

  • Dutch language proficiency (written and spoken) is required.
  • A University degree in the medical sciences / health profession with Dutch BIG-registration is required.
  • A successfully completed MSc degree in health sciences is required
  • You have affinity with the fields of musculoskeletal health, and epidemiology and excellent analytical skills.
  • You have excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, including writing and good presentation skills.
  • You have positive work attitude and team spirit, are able to work independently, be proactive, hold a well-structured working style, and look forward to thrive in a multi-cultural work environment.

Conditions of employment
A challenging position within the largest University Medical Center (UMC) in the Netherlands with high ambitions in the field of healthcare, education, and research.

  • You will receive a temporary position for 4 years.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.800,- (scale 10), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as an in-company physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. And there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.

You will be working within the Department of Internal Medicine under the supervision of Professor Dr. Fernando Rivadeneira . The Translational Skeletal Genomics group studies the determinants of skeletal diseases along the life-course (with special focus on osteoporosis), seeking the translation of genomic discoveries and epidemiological findings into clinical applications that improve patient care. We do this by applying state-of-the art “big data” analytics integrating genomics, imaging, and other forms of medical data. Our research group has contributed to numerous publications in the musculoskeletal field, achieved together with researchers from > 30 countries around the world.
