PhD AI for Simulation-Based Training

The research will focus on developing advanced AI techniques to improve analysis and interpretation of data in simulation-based training scenarios for Defence. The project aims to advance AI methodologies to optimise training effectiveness and system capabilities in simulated environments.

The University of Newcastle, in partnership with Applied Virtual Simulation (AVS), is offering a PhD opportunity in the innovative field of AI applications within simulation-based training environments.

The research will focus on developing advanced AI techniques to improve analysis and interpretation of data in simulation-based training scenarios for Defence. This could include enhancing after-action reviews, extracting narratives from complex scenarios, and exploring AI’s role in simulated tactical training and content generation.

The project aims to advance AI methodologies to optimise training effectiveness and system capabilities in simulated environments.

PhD Scholarship details

Funding: Full-time Duration: Scholarship may be held for up to 3.5 years (full-time) and the tuition fee scholarship is for four years.
Remuneration: The successful applicant will receive a Research Living Allowance, at the current value of $40,500 AUD per annum, plus additional $10,000 for research and travel expenses to support the study. Scholarships also include up to $1,500 relocation allowance.
The scholarship will be offered to the successful candidate subject to the grant/funding being fully established.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Fulfill criteria for admission at the University of Newcastle, including security clearance and criminal checks as required.
  • Demonstrate excellent research capability and communication skills.
  • Undertake an industry placement with AVS.
  • The applicant will need to meet the minimum eligibility criteria  for admission.
