PhD 5G/6G Massive MIMO Transceivers

Telecom Paris

Opening: Nokia bell labs in collaboration with Telecom Paris and IEMN-JUNIA has a PhD opening for a candidate with an EE background. This PhD position will explore novel RF/digital signal circuit design for mMIMO embedded system networks.

Work Description:  The objective of this PhD is to study highly digital transceivers to integrate them into future base stations, small cells and femtocells of 5G and 6G networks. These systems are necessarily based on MIMO architectures. An analysis of the state of the art and existing works will allow an architectural study of direct-digital-to-RF transmission chains and the definition/design of a complete model of this chain. This modeling step will be validated by high-level simulations including the non-idealities of the system. Particular attention will be paid to in-band and out-of-band bandwidth and noise performance, energy efficiency and system linearity. This model will be completed by a study of the linearization and pre-distortion loops.

The selected architectures will be based on very high speed digital delta-sigma modulators and low resolution digital/analog converters. These prototype circuits will be designed in 28nm or 22nm type CMOS technology, manufactured and measured to validate the expected performance.
