Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Group Practice Administration is responsible for the clinical and administrative oversight of ECU Physicians Group Practice, which includes all clinical activities for the entire School of Medicine and its ten clinical departments. The practice renders professional services in the School’s Outpatient center, Vidant Medical Center, Firetower Medical Office, Greenville Pavilion, Medical park, Doctors Park, and satellite locations throughout eastern North Carolina. Group Practice Administration has direct administrative, fiscal and facility management responsibilities as they relate to the provision of health care in these various clinic and inpatient settings.
Pharmacy Services is a division within Group Practice Administration. Pharmacy Services operates three pharmacies: the Family Practice Center Pharmacy, the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center Pharmacy, and the ECU Pharmacy. The pharmacists and other staff members of the pharmacies have patient care, education, drug distribution, and operation responsibilities.
Pharmacy Services is also responsible for purchasing and distributing medications to other medical school clinics to be administered to patients by physicians/nurses. In addition, Pharmacy Services establishes and monitors policies and procedures involving drug distribution in all medical school clinics.
Job Duties Assist in the Preparation of Medication for Dispensing—The employee should gather patient information, interpret medication orders, enter the orders in the computer system, and print the required label and receipt. In the Family Practice Center and in the ECU Pharmacy, the employee should locate the medication on the storage shelf, count the required amount of medication and label the prescription bottle properly. Process all prescriptions for delivery to employees through the POS system. Deliver all necessary prescriptions to patient’s enrolled in our delivery service and all necessary clinic orders daily using the state vehicle. Ordering and Restocking medication and Supplies from Suppliers—The pharmacy technician should assess daily the current quantity of medications and supplies on hand in the pharmacy and reorder as needed to keep a stock level. The pharmacy technician should check-in the order and restock the shelves. Many medications and supplies are available on state contract. The pharmacy technician should understand the contract or order contract items when appropriate. Process, log and return expired medications and recalled products according to procedures at the store level. Coordinate the return of expired medications with the Inventory specialist for destruction.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it’s teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU  Health.
Minimum Education/Experience Completion of an accredited nine-month Pharmacy Technician program; or high school diploma or equivalency and one year of pharmacy-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
