Position Summary

The Medication Assistant Program (MAP) Pharmacy Technician is responsible for facilitating the process for obtaining free medications for eligible patients through pharmaceutical companies’ programs and other available programs to help patients who cannot afford the cost of treatment.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains current knowledge of manufacturer’s patient assistance programs.
  • Clearly communicates program requirements and timelines with enrollees and the providers.
  • Identifies qualified program participants in accordance with eligibility requirements and assists patients to enroll in appropriate programs.
  • Reviews financial/eligibility information in patients’ charts
  • Contacts patients as necessary with questions or need for additional data.
  • Serve as the point of contact regarding MAP and provides information to providers and/or patients, as requested.
  • Responsible for intake and re-distribution of MAP medications and management of the inventory
  • Gets signatures from patients and providers when needed.
  • Delivers service in a manner consistent with the scope of practice of the discipline and the standards established by City of Hope as expressed in the plans for provision of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Acts in a proactive manner using effective decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrates understanding of all professional and regulatory standards. 
  • Communicates effectively with all customers and colleagues to meet organizational goals.   
  • Fosters involvement in performance improvement activities to promote continuous improvement in care delivery.
  • Demonstrates assimilation of core organizational values within own performance.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of computer systems, to proficiently perform accurate documentation.
  • Maintains appropriate level of productivity and accuracy.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively deal with patient coverage issues, insurance verification and share of cost issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • High School or equivalent
  • Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
  • One year performing pharmacy related duties

 

Req. Certification/Licensure:     

  • CA State Board of Pharmacy License

             

Preferred Education:    

  • Post high school vocational/specialized training or graduation from a foreign School of Pharmacy.

 

             

Pref. Certification/Licensure:    

  • PTCB
