Job Summary

Involves instructional or program activities related to recreation, leisure, and fitness in an accredited environment provides first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user / customer needs.

Department Description

UCSF Fitness and Recreation operates two fitness centers at UCSF. We provide fitness and wellbeing services to UCSF students, faculty, staff and community members through a broad range of fitness, recreation, aquatics, personal training, outdoor programs, and health and wellness programs. We make life better here by inspiring fitness and wellbeing for everyone. UCSF Fitness and Recreation’s mission is to enrich the human spirit, quality of life, and community at UCSF. We fulfill that mission by providing our members with exceptional service, knowledgeable staff, a wide variety of activities, and a clean environment. We are a customer service division, providing needed services on all UCSF campus sites and delivering these services with PRIDE: Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence.

Required Qualifications

• One year or more of experience as a Certified Personal Trainer
• Nationally recognized Personal Training certification
• Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures
• Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, dynamic flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
• Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.
• Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.
• Ability to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Exercise Science or a related field of study strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
• Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties.
• Rehab or injury management experience

License/Certification

• Nationally certified CPR/AED certification – required
• Nationally recognized Personal Training certification – required
• Standard First Aid Training Certification – preferred
• Dietary expertise or nutritional certification – preferred
• Previous Personal Training experience in a gym/health club environment – preferred
