Part-time Volunteer Coordinator, Orientation

Support Staff Temporary Part-time New Position (8 Month Contract)

The Volunteer Coordinator supports the Student Experience team with Volunteer Management for orientation and transition initiatives during peak times in the student lifecycle. The incumbent will support 250 to 400 student volunteers each term to welcome new students with their transition to studies at Conestoga College through Orientation and a variety of events and programs. The Coordinator assists in all parts of the volunteer management lifecycle including (1) needs assessment, (2) recruitment, (3) screening, (4) selection and scheduling, (5) onboarding and training, (6) retention and recognition, and (7) evaluation, in conjunction with the Orientation Coordinator and the team. In addition, the incumbent participates as an active member of the volunteer management committee within the Student Experience office to establish best practices for volunteer management across the department. 

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department working fully on-site at the Doon campus. The candidate will work up to 24 hours per week, normally from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday to Thursday. Weekend and evening work may also be required to support student training and Orientation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Surveys volunteer needs across each campus to meet volunteer targets
  • Recruits, screens, schedules, and trains volunteers
  • Maintains and updates volunteer lists
  • Develops retention and recognition opportunities
  • Collects volunteer statistics for evaluation reports
  • Responds and answers to volunteer inquiries
  • Provides students and visitors with information and referrals during transition events and peak times in the student lifecycle
  • Participates in setting up, organizing, and tracking supplies and equipment for transition events
  • Shares the Conestoga student experience with prospective students and families virtually and in-person
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • One-year certificate in Volunteer Management, Event Management, or a related field of study
  • Two years of practical work-related experience in volunteer management, orientation, and/or transition initiatives, preferably in a post-secondary setting
  • Knowledge of Student Development, Co-curricular learning, Conestoga College campus, community, and student services would be considered an asset
  • Interpersonal skills, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational and time-management skills
  • High degree of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, data management skills, detail-oriented, information literacy, with the ability to use manuals, websites, and other resources to find specific information
