Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary Working under supervision of the PI and also independently, the Research Assistant carries out the tasks related to a specific research project—such as collecting and analyzing data, assisting in the preparation of data to submit to granting agencies and to provide overall support and leadership to undergraduate student workers. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned depending on the needs of a particular research project.
Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze data
  • Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
  • Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor
  • Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project
  • Manage and respond to project related email
  • Supervise undergraduate students working on the research project (maintaining records on assignment completion, acting as liaison/mediator between the undergraduate students and the faculty researcher)
  • Attend project meetings
  • Attend meetings as necessary
  • Summarize project results
  • Prepare progress reports for the PI and funding agency
  • Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations
  • Monitor the project budget

Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Sociology or related field
  • Experience in using computer-based tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solves technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research.
  • Ability to apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Desired Qualifications
