JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College, Division of Health Services and Behavioral Research in the Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) in Hershey, PA seeks a part- time research assistant to help with a grant funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  The grant title is “Mixed Methods Research to Increase Engagement and Smoking Abstinence among African Americans enrolled in Quitline Text Messaging Services.” The principal investigator has developed the grant project with three phases – Phase 1: data analysis, Phase 2: qualitative interviews with Pennsylvania Quitline clients, and Phase 3: a pilot ecological momentary assessment (EMA) study.

The part-time research assistant will assist the principal investigator in the Penn State Center for Research on Tobacco and Health by performing tasks related to data analysis of Pennsylvania Quitline text messaging data, research protocol development, database setup and management, and publication of research findings.  

The successful candidate should be a current graduate student working towards earning an MA, MS, or MPH degree with some coursework in biostatistics, epidemiology, psychology, or public health. Candidates should be detail-oriented, organized, and have experience in the use of relational databases, mapping, and spatial analytics software.

This is a part-time temporary position for 24 hours/week.

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
