Part-Time Lecturer in the Social Sciences Core (Self, Culture, and Society)

The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for part-time Lecturers to teach in the Social Sciences Core sequence Self, Culture, and Society during the winter and spring quarters of the 2022-23 school year. Self, Culture, and Society is a three-quarter sequence that fulfills the University’s general education requirement in the social sciences. The sequence introduces students to a broad range of social scientific theories and methodologies that deepen their understanding of basic problems of cultural, social, and historical existence. Lecturers will teach between one and four sections of the Self, Culture, and Society, depending on curricular needs. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching a seminar-style course, holding regularly scheduled office hours, preparing and grading assignments, and attending weekly staff meetings. The per-course salary is $7,319, and the position is not benefits eligible.  

Qualifications

The position requires a Ph.D. in a social science discipline and is open to applicants who will have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. no later than December 31, 2023. Applicants must have a record of teaching at the college level, preferably in seminar-style general education courses that engage students in close reading and discussion.
