| Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a leading national research university and the state of New Jersey’s preeminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education. The Honors College Cross-Cultural Competency Course (CCC) is a discussion-based foundational 1.0 credit, in-person (ten-week) P/N course for all students at the Honors College-New Brunswick, during Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. Instructors are part of an educational community and will work with a Faculty Director, as well as a peer mentor assigned to their section. The CCC is built around a team-based approach and Instructors are expected to learn from each other as well as the experiences of their own students. Instructors will develop a student-centered community focused on fostering respectful engagement and intentional conversations centered on intersectionality and social identities such as race, gender, identity, LGBTQIA+, class, and culture among first-year students of the Honors College. Instructors are expected to mentor and guide students towards the completion of their group capstone Advancing True Inclusion Project, designed to advance respect, inclusion, and belonging, as well as participation in the end-of-the-year Student Showcase. The course meets ten times, 80 minutes per session, during ten weeks of the fall and the spring semesters. It will be graded P/N. The Learning Goals/Objectives of the CCC are as follows. At the end of the course students should be able to: 1. Learn respectfully about and be sensitive to cultural differences 2. Understand what it takes and means to be culturally competent and practice cultural humility 3. Be able to apply their understanding of cultural differences to other contexts beyond the course and classroom into the community 4. Understand Rutgers’ historical context, its demographics, and current cultural social issues on campus 5. Guide students in developing a group capstone project (the Advancing True Inclusion Project) designed to advance respect, inclusion, and belonging at the Honors College and the Rutgers community |

| COVID-19 Immunization Requirement | Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination. |

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience | Master’s degree or equivalent experience. Pedagogical experience in teaching practices dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues as well as issues of race, gender, intersectionality, and social identities. Must have 3 years of experience with effective teaching, mentoring, community work, or other educational activities. In addition, candidates must have strong leadership, communication, and conflict management skills. Applicants must be prepared to facilitate a leading-edge introductory experience encouraging students to personally address questions of privilege, implicit bias, difference, discrimination, equity, and social justice from various perspectives. Must be able to address classroom microaggressions, building communities of belonging, inclusive awareness, as well as global and local knowledge of communities in and surrounding Rutgers. |

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Instructors should have an orientation to teaching and student development that creates the co-construction of knowledge. Instructors should view themselves as part of a collaborative classroom, rather than a lecturer. Experience facilitating conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion preferred. Experience working with first-year college students preferred. Experience teaching a diverse, interdisciplinary cohort of high achieving students is valuable. A familiarity with Rutgers and Honors communities is helpful but not required. Knowledge of online learning platforms, especially Canvas, will be necessary. |

| Overview | Position Requirements Include the Following: • Teach one or two sections of 1.0 credit undergraduate course Honors College Cross-Cultural Competency Course • Hold class meetings at all course times/dates • Attend pre-semester instructor training and required weekly instructor meetings and workshops, including ongoing self-reflection exercises • Engage with and prepare video materials for lessons and attend peer mentor meetings when appropriate. • Plan and prepare lessons under Faculty Director guidance on the common course syllabus • Grade or assess and return assignments in a timely manner, and keep up-to-date grades for student access. • Where applicable, meet with and advise Meet with and advise the assigned peer mentor (possibly an Honors College Diversity Peer Mentor) as needed. • Meet with students enrolled in the course as needed and keep regular office hour availability. • Adhere to course, department, college, and university procedures and policies. • Submit feedback to students in a timely manner • The ability to teach and foster discussion around introductory materials in diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues. • Capacity for community building within and beyond the classroom setting. • The ability to work with a teaching team and offer feedback on a core common syllabus. |
