JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Morbidity, Mortality and Demography Lab (MOMA-D Lab) at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Internship in Applied Demography. The Intern will lead the production of estimates of population not employed or in education/training (NEET) and in the initial estimation of health inequalities in substance use. The student will leverage data from the National Survey of Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) to estimate trends in the population aged 16-24 classified as NEET from 2010 to 2019. Once these estimates are produced, the intern will develop a policy brief on the size and composition of the NEET population and the trends observed between 2010 and 2019 (Expected completion: November 2022). The Intern will also produce estimates of substance use for the NEET population.

The results from this second analysis will constitute the content of a second policy brief to be published by the end of the Internship (December 2022).

At the end of the internship, the participant will show mastery in the use of the NSDUH, the production of population estimates and analysis of trends for the NEET population in the US, and will have submitted two policy briefs for publication to the Pennsylvania Population Network.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters in Applied Demography or be in the process of completing their PhD in Applied Demography, Demography, or a related area emphasizing population health. The intern is expected to work 20 hours per week and to hold regular meetings with the project team. The Internship will start on October 3, 2022.

Applications should include a resume and a brief cover letter.
