Academic Part-time Position

The School of Health & Life Sciences, Continuing Education is currently seeking qualified professionals to teach in a variety of part-time nursing courses. We require faculty who have expertise in subject areas, including:

• Coronary Care
• Critical Care Physiological Concepts
• Nephrology Nursing
• Starting IV Lines and Venipuncture

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. Theory classes are delivered online – asynchronous. Labs are delivered in-person at the Doon or Milton Campus locations and are typically scheduled on weekends between 9am – 4pm.

Employment commences September 2024.

Responsibilities:

• Ensuring program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field
• Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement
• Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment that supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds and learning styles
• Working in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college

Qualifications:

• BScN equivalent education is required
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
• Minimum of five years of current clinical nursing experience in an acute care, critical care setting, nephrology nursing including hemodialysis
• Experience with curriculum development is an asset
• Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
• Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
• Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and providing a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels including international students and students requiring accommodation is an asset
• Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are considered an asset

You will play a pivotal role in enhancing academic excellence and achieving course learning outcomes by creating an effective learning environment through sound, teaching practice. Faculty teach as part of a program team and develop/deliver curriculum using a variety of engaging and innovative methods. A part-time faculty typically teaches 1-2 courses each 14-week terms for approximately 3-6 hours per week in the classroom. On average our class sizes are 20-30 students depending on the program/course. Previous PowerPoint slides and instructional plans may be provided as well as other resources and team support.
