Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach INTD 3205.03 -Conflict, Militarism and State Violence as Development , in the Winter term of the 2024-25 academic year, January 1 to April 30, 2025. The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the class, including the required tutorials. In addition, the part-time academic is to be available for two hours per week outside of class time for student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the IDS Department.
This course will engage with contemporary debates in critical development studies, critical military and war studies, international humanitarian law, and critical security studies to locate conflict, militarism, war-making, and state violence as methods and practices of development. The course will center the uneven material and historical effects of capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism as systems and forces that shape and constitute conflict, militarism, and state violence.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position A PhD in International Development Studies or a closely related discipline, with a research and teaching focus on militarism, state violence, critical security studies and conflict. Prior teaching experience required.
Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement
Additional Information All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
