Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach INTD 3020.03 – Climate Emergencies, Global Development and In/Justice, in the Fall term of the 2024-25 academic year, September 1 – December 31, 2024. The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the class, including the required tutorials. In addition, the part-time academic is to be available for two hours per week outside of class time for student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the IDS Department.
This course will engage how the discourse of “climate change” tends to obscure what are climate crises, disasters, and emergencies that have been unfolding for centuries. This course will take an intersectional view of contemporary climate emergencies as expressions of specific methods of global and international development that produce and distribute risks, fall-outs, and harms. The course will consider topics such as environmental racism, extreme extraction, energopolitics, ecocide, externalities, and the Anthropocene and aims to locate racial capitalism and settler colonialism as historical and material forces.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position A PhD in International Development Studies or a closely related discipline, with experience teaching climate disasters and social justice focused courses.
Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement
