Part-time Academic Advisor I (S04048P)

• Conducts academic advising for students interested in, or pursuing a degree in University Studies utilizing multiple modalities such as in-person, virtual, phone, and email
• Provides guidance on academic topics such as degree requirements, relevant course selection
• Provides students with assistance in setting and achieving educational and career goals
• Helps students make informed academic decisions teaching them how to track their own academic progress, locate and interpret appropriate policies, and to utilize the tools and resources available.
• Monitors the academic progress of a student caseload. This includes proactive outreach to provide students with just-in-time assistance
• Conducts verification of degree progress, removal of holds, and approval of various forms to ensure timely student progression, etc
• Analyzes and interpret student data, transcripts, and placement results.
• Enters advising notes into MyMav following best practices for documenting student appointments/contacts
• Maintains a clear understanding of all applicable federal, state, and University policies and procedures.
• Keep abreast of relevant academic programs and support services such as counseling and tutoring within a College and University and provide appropriate referrals to students
• Participates in New Maverick Orientation and other critical campus events for the benefit of the University Studies program and students
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Standard office setting. Repetitive use of keyboard.
• Ability to travel to different campus locations.
• May include remote and virtual academic advising work outside an office.
• Evening and weekend work may be required.
• Position is 19 hours/week.

• Federal, state, and local policies and procedures governing academic advising functions; and resources provided by academic advising associations such as NACADA and TEXAAN.
• A working knowledge and ability to use the University Catalog is essential.
• Written and verbal interpersonal communication; organizing information; problem solving; adhering to deadlines and time management; taking initiative; outreach; and navigating student information systems.

Ability To:
Work professionally, collaboratively, and independently; and proficiently use Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint.
