Position Summary
Reflecting the wide variety of functions performed by the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) and the dynamic nature of the university environment, the duties of this position involve both traditional paralegal activities and non-traditional, creative and technical activities. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Office of the General Counsel legal team and will be able to perform both types of activities at a high level. The ideal candidate for this position is organized, professional, responsible, detail-oriented and proactive. This individual must be able to work collegially and collaboratively within the OGC and with other University offices.
This is a split graded job posting (Grade 9/Grade 10). Candidates will be considered based upon education and experience in meeting the qualifications.
Major Responsibilities:
-Support the Office of General Counsel (OGC) by providing varied traditional paralegal activities.
Supporting Actions:
-Support Brown’s ambitious and exciting initiative to grow its research enterprise, and to double university research in the next five to seven years by working closely with the attorneys responsible for advising the university’s research enterprise and capital planning on all matters related to research and its growth at Brown.
Supporting Actions:
-Perform non-traditional, creative and technical activities in support of the outreach activities of the Office of General Counsel.
Supporting Actions:
–Support OGC attorneys on student and campus life matters.
Supporting Actions:
-Provide OGC with other support as assigned.
Supporting Actions: Assisting OGC attorneys with special projects as requested.
Required Qualifications:
Grade 9: Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of experience; certificate program in paralegal studies preferred with a financial services or corporate background or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Grade 10: Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of paralegal experience with a financial services or corporate background, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required, working in a law firm or in-house.
Regulatory experience considered a plus. Notary Public certification required or individual to become certified within six months of appointment. experience; certificate program in paralegal studies preferred.
