We have an exciting opportunity to join the Legal Services team as a Paralegal (Maternity Cover) to provide high quality, efficient and effective administrative support.

You will join a small, but powerful team when it comes to providing advice across the organisation.

Reporting directly to the Head of Legal Services, you will be involved in the administration of case management systems, providing services and support to the Legal Team and colleagues across the University to provide, advice, training and to collate and be responsible for the seamless delivery of responses to all external requests.

Through your proactive nature you will:

  • Provide paralegal assistance to the legal services team.
  • Undertake paralegal research to support the activities of the Legal Services.
  • Manage a caseload of matters allocated to you by the Legal team.
  • Provide support and assistance as directed by the Head of Legal with regards to FOI/DSAR matters.
  • Provide excellent services to the Legal Services team, wider team, and colleagues across the institution.
  • Provide support for the development and maintenance of corporate information and governance records.

Skills and Experience:

  • You will have excellent organisational skills and to be able to set your own direction and outcomes with minimal supervision.
  • You will also have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport at all levels in the organisation and the ability to think logically and clearly, work to tight deadlines and to be flexible in your approach to work.
  • You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to be influential with senior stakeholders both internal and external to the organisation.
  • A desire to offer excellent customer service.
  • Excellent IT skills including advanced knowledge of web-based solution, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software packages, preferably Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 1998 and or the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is helpful.
  • Experience of providing high quality customer service in a complex environment.
  • Understanding of how to maintain governance or other complex records accurately.
  • Willingness to working successfully as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and in appropriate language with third parties, students, and colleagues both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and explain complex regulations to third parties, students, and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to support, guide and inform as necessary.

This role will be offered on a hybrid working basis for which the current requirement for a full-time employee is 3 days per week on site.
