| Job Description: | The Orthopaedic Biomedical Engineering (OrthoBME) Laboratory is seeking a laboratory manager to assist with day-to-day laboratory operations and student training. The OrthoBME lab is focused on understanding how chronic joint degeneration leads to chronic pain and disability, and to achieve this goal, our team works with samples collected from rodent models and from human patients (www.orthobme.com ). A key tenet of our laboratory environment is team-based science. We feature a highly collaborative environment and often take on ambitious projects that integrate the skills and abilities of multiple scientific fields. As such, strong communication skills, willingness to learn, and ability work with and mentor others are highly important for all members of our team. We are seeking a laboratory manager with excellent organizational and communication skills to help us catalog human samples received by the laboratory, maintain the laboratory’s regulatory compliance records, and manage day-to-day operations such as chemical waste management, purchasing, and supply management. Additional responsibilities may also include coordinating research meetings, assisting with rodent post-operative pain management, as well as conducting histopathological and biochemical assays. Prior experience with histopathology is desired, but not required, as we are able to train these skills in new staff. |
| Expected Salary: | $17-$20 per hour |
| Minimum Requirements: | Applicants must have a B.S. degree in a biomedical sciences field, such as biochemistry, pathology, physiology, or biomedical engineering. Other degree fields will also be considered if the applicant has the desired skill sets. |
| Preferred Qualifications: | Dr. Allen’s research focuses on understanding complex interactions between different physiologic systems within the context of knee osteoarthritis. The centering question for his laboratory is how does the degeneration of the articular joint lead to joint pain and disability. The laboratory employs multiple scientists with broad expertise across medical research; thus, applicants must be able and willing to collaborate with other lab members with a broad range of scientific expertise. |
