Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Administrative Support Coordinator, the Student Assistant is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and clerical support and service to ensure that the mission of DIRC is realized. The position will primarily engage in administrative and clerical activities to ensure the operational needs of the department are met.

Essential job duties include:

  • Assisting with DIRC operational tasks (e.g. department purchasing, facilities requests, scheduling, receiving and sending department mail, other general administrative tasks).
  • Staffing the front desk in DIRC.
  • Welcoming visitors/guests and directing them to the appropriate center.
  • Providing tours/overview of DIRC.
  • Working with online tools/tasks management applications (e.g. Airtable, Slack Dropbox).

General duties include:

  • Nurture a welcoming environment for visitors to the center whether in-person or virtually
  • Assist in virtual or in-person center coordination, provide accurate information to students, faculty, staff, and community members via walk-in, online, and phone communication.
  • Assist with DIRC or center administrative duties including data entry and responding to Center emails and phone calls
  • Attend one-on-one meetings with the Administrative Support Coordinator
  • Attend weekly DIRC Operations Staff Meetings
  • Work with DIRC staff members on purchasing needs
  • While working on campus and in-person, the following responsibilities are expected :
    • Provide coverage at department front desk
    • Assist in facility maintenance including, but not limited to basic cleaning, furniture arrangements, and supply inventory for in-person work
    • Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for events and programs for in-person work
    • Lead tours, information sessions, and workshops with campus visitors
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
  • Must be able to work 15 hours per week
  • Must attend weekly staff meetings as designated by the Administrative Support Coordinator and staff training prior to each semester starting.
  • Must attend designated paid trainings as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability and willingness to understand and articulate issues of multiculturalism, cross-cultural communication, racism, sexism, heterosexism, homophobia, classism, ableism, xenophobia, religious oppression etc.
  • Ability to work within DIRC mission statement.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and multiple projects.
  • Proven experience working cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and the wider community.
  • Has working knowledge of desktop publishing software and PC computers.
  • Self-motivated, strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines.
