Open Rank: Full Time Position, Assistant, Associate or Professor in Data Science and Analytics

The Iovine and Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Analytics and Data Science (non-tenure track, rank dependent on qualifications) to begin in the fall 2023 semester. The ideal candidate will hold a M.S. and/or Ph.D., or equivalent advanced degree, with a specialization in one or more of the following fields, or related fields: data science, business analytics, computing, or technology and information systems; or commensurate experience in research, academic, or professional experience.

Qualifications

In addition to the previously mentioned areas of specialization, candidates with experience or a specific interest in the following areas will be prioritized:

• Artificial intelligence and machine learning, including experience in developing and deploying machine learning models

• Proficiency with programming languages including Python, R, SQL, and TensorFlow

• Predictive and prescriptive analytics

• Data visualization and related tools

• Development of data gathering and collaborative analysis tools

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to: 

• Teaching or co-teaching courses, online or in-person depending on program requirements

• Developing responsive cutting-edge curriculum for a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students with backgrounds in the design, computer-based technologies, engineering, business or entrepreneurship, and communication

• Development and dissemination of national level practice, applied research and/or scholarship in data science and analytics for collaborative innovation

• Mentoring students in and beyond their education into professional careers, including start-up and founding of business endeavors 

• Participating in service, administrative or leadership functions

• Building inclusive and innovative community

Requirements

Ideal candidates should have:

• Two or more years of teaching experience at the college/university level (graduate and undergraduate preferred) at peer institutions

• Experience in industry or development of data science and analytics processes and tools for societal impact projects

• Evidence of pedagogical innovation and ability to move outside traditional classroom environments into real-world applications; effective use of technology in instructional environments; and an ability to work well in collaborative educational settings

• Interest in forging relationships and building opportunities with other schools and departments at USC as well as with industry and community organizations.
