Open Postdoctoral position, faculty mentor Sean Reardon

Stanford University

The Educational Opportunity Project (EOP) at Stanford University, directed by Sean Reardon, Professor of Poverty and Inequality in Education and Professor (by courtesy) of Sociology, seeks to hire a postdoctoral fellow in education for a 1-year appointment (with possibility of renewal). The position is open to candidates who can start on or before January 1, 2023 or July 1, 2023 at the latest. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on a project analyzing systemic (in)equity in the New York State education system. The EOP, in partnership with the NY State Education Department (NYSED) will  analyze 15 years of student, teacher, school, and district data from all public schools in NY to measure and monitor equity in educational opportunities and outcomes from kindergarten through high school. We will construct equity indicators to map out the landscape of systemic (in)equity to provide NYSED with actionable, evidence-based research that helps diagnose causes of disparities in educational outcomes in order to better target resources and interventions that reduce inequality.
The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Professor Reardon and the EOP team on the project. Responsibilities will include data management, constructing measures of educational equity using NYSED data, conceptualizing and drafting research papers, and preparing academic papers for publication and research briefs for NYSED.
At the EOP, the team is working towards a day where all children have access to equitable educational opportunities. We are measuring educational opportunity in every community in America and have built an 11-year national database of academic performance based on nearly 450 million test scores. Our goal is to use data to generate evidence about what policies and contexts are most effective at increasing educational opportunity, and to use that evidence to inform educational policy and practices.
Appointment term is renewable for an additional year, contingent on satisfactory performance. Postdoctoral fellows receive a stipend, standard university benefits, and research and travel funds. Fellows are expected to be in residence for the duration of the fellowship. To ensure full consideration, please submit application materials by November 15, 2022. The position will remain open until filled.
