Position Overview

The Online Orientation Coordinator will support the planning, execution, and assessment of the Online Orientation experience for new domestic students at the University of Kansas. The Online Orientation Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Orientation & Transition Programs team to create robust, intentional, and inclusive online Orientation programs. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in online learning, software, and pedagogy, the ability to work collaboratively, and excitement to curate Orientation experiences for new students.

The Center for Orientation and Transition Programs is housed within the Centers for Orientation and Academic Advising Programs (COAAP), a division within Academic Success. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs.

Job Description

Orientation Support 80%

  • Assist the Orientation team in planning Online Orientation programs for new domestic students (undergraduate & graduate).
  • Design engaging and interactive asynchronous courses specific to student populations.
  • Develop and facilitate synchronous Online Orientation content,
  • Provide logistical support for the Orientation registration process.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Directors to assist in preparation of the Orientation day, including preparing and organization of materials.
  • Assist and participate in the training of Orientation student staff as needed.
  • Moderate and present during Orientation sessions as needed.

Other Orientation & Transition Programs Support 20%

  • Assist in the execution of Hawk Week, the University of Kansas’ Official Welcome Week program.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of additional transition programs hosted by the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs, including but not limited to Winter Welcome Week, Late Night Breakfast, and more.

Position Requirements

  • This position may be a hybrid of on-site work and telework as deemed by supervisor.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree OR Bachelor’s Degree PLUS one (1) year of experience planning and executing online programs or events.
  • Experience working in Learning Management Systems (i.e., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of direct experience with orientation and transition programs.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, as demonstrated by application materials and interview.
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse populations.
  • Prior work experience that required multi-tasking and managing projects on a tight deadline.
