One or more Assistant Professors in Strategy and Organization (with tenure track option)

At The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Aalborg University Business School, a number of full-time positions as Assistant Professor in Strategy and Organization are open for appointment from 1. February 2023 or soon thereafter for maximum 4 years.

Job description

Aalborg University Business School is a newly established business school at Aalborg University, a science and technology-focused university with world-class research in many disciplines. Aalborg University is a founding institution in Problem-Based Learning. With this as a guiding principle, the Business School plays a major role in bridging the gap between business and science that helps commercialise inventions and generate business growth. The prerequisite for this is relevant research of the highest quality. We have a strategy of publishing our research in leading journals in our fields. We take current trends and issues into account in all the knowledge we produce. Only then can we contribute with business-critical insights that make a difference in society.

The Strategy, Organization and Management Group at Aalborg University Business School is new research group with focus on organization, strategies and business models of incumbent firm and startups. At the micro-level, the group is particularly interested in leadership, careers, inequality, job satisfaction, promotions and the impact of HRM practices on employees. At the macro-level, organizational change, organizational culture, transformation, digitalization, ecosystems, sustainability, and uncertainty are among the current strong interests of the group. The teaching includes core courses in organization and strategy at both the bachelor and master levels at the school. The SOM Group has an ambitious strategy to improve both teaching and research by increasing the outreach and impact of our research projects. We aim at publishing our research at the highest international level.

In order to contribute to the development of the SOM Group, we are looking for candidates with research in e.g. organization theory, organizational behavior, and leadership. Ideally in combination with strong capabilities in qualitative analysis.

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities wishes to ensure that assistant professorships provide career opportunities both within and outside of the university. For that reason, assistant professorships are formed in a manner ensuring that the competencies achieved in the position qualify for a career within research as well as a career in the private and/or public sector. No later than one year before the termination of the position, you are offered an interview in order to clarify your further career.

ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP – FORMAL INFORMATION
A position as assistant professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for assistant professors organised by the University.

The employment as assistant professor must not exceed a total period of four years at the same institution (a maximum of six years at assistant professor level at AAU and a maximum of eight years at assistant professor level in Denmark). 

Applicants for the assistant professorship are required to possess academic qualifications; for example a PhD degree or similar academic qualifications.

TENURE TRACK OPTION
Highly qualified candidates can be appointed as tenure-track assistant professors on a six-year

contract with the prospect of performance-based advancement to a tenured position as associate professor. An internal assessment committee will conduct a mid-term evaluation after 3 years, and an external assessment committee will conduct a final review after 5.5 years. If the assessment is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as associate professor.

ASSESSMENT
Applicants will be assessed by an expert assessment committee.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.

The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question.

When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Agreement

Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
