Scholarship information
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at ASU (OLLI at ASU) seeks to build innovative programming to connect traditional ASU students with the passions and aspirations of lifelong learners. OLLI at ASU provides learning experiences and a community where adults ages 50+ engage in non-credit, university-quality classes, member-driven programs, campus-based learning opportunities, and pathways to public service.
Thanks to a generous gift from the CDH Charitable Foundation, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) invites currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at ASU to apply for the Intergenerational Learning Service Scholarship. Two scholarships of $7,500 each will be awarded to two creative, passionate recipients to design, teach, and facilitate a community-driven, artistic project on intergenerational learning (people of all ages learning together and from each other).

Application information
As a scholar, your project must have the following components, all of which will take place during the 2022-2023 academic year:
1. 2-3 artistic workshops or similar learning experiences per year, 1.5 – 2.5 hours each and hosted on an ASU campus. Workshops should work to build a sense of community across generations. As such, the workshops should feature bidirectional co-learning opportunities and elicit active participation from attendees, who must comprise both OLLI members and traditional ASU students. A successful applicant might, for example, show workshop participants how to engage in oil painting, collaboratively generate artistic themes with the class, and conduct an active discussion on participant aesthetics and styles. Applicants may also choose to involve other ASU organizations such as student-led clubs in order to increase community engagement. Applicants are not encouraged to propose solo teaching or unidirectional lessons, performances, or lectures.
2. A capstone event in the Spring semester that celebrates creative community formation and is open to traditional ASU students and OLLI members. This event will both (a) showcase the outcomes of the above learning experiences and (b) create space for other ASU / OLLI artists to celebrate their own creative work. Examples might include an exhibition, a visual or interactive showcase, or an art gala. Recipients of the prize will have consultation with and support from the School of Art Student Community Engagement office when planning this event.
3. At the conclusion of the year-long project, scholars must compose a brief summary of the workshops and capstone event, as well as a process timeline and a short analysis of the project outcomes.
Funding details:
Scholarship funds ($7,500) will be disbursed to your ASU account. Half of the scholarship will be awarded immediately after acceptance, and the other half will be awarded once the scholarship project is fully organized. Scholarship recipients can apply for additional financial assistance for materials needed for successful completion of their projects.
All awardees will be expected to make the following time commitments:
1. 2-3 hour orientation and planning session
2. Making purchases of any needed materials
3. Facilitating the workshops
4. Two short consultation meetings with the School of Art Student Community Engagement Office
5. Coordinating the capstone venue and installation
6. Brief project breakdown and debrief meeting
Deadline:
Friday, October 14, 2022
