Fellowship at University of Antwerp

The Department of Veterinary Sciences in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences is looking for PhD candidates who want to apply for fellowships in the field of fertility preservation and stem cells. No funding is obtained yet. We offer to supervise candidates with a strong CV who want to apply for fellowships.

Subject? In vitro gametogenesis in the pig as a large animal model for human and endangered species. How to use stem cells to create oocytes?

Where? Research will be performed at the Gamete Research Centre at the University of Antwerp, Belgium.

When? When successful for the grant application, the planned start date is November 2023.

Requirements? 

•You hold a Master degree in veterinary, (bio)medical or biotechnological sciences or you will have obtained it by the time the fellowship will start. 

•You can demonstrate excellent study results.

•You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation. 

•Essential competencies/skills:

•experience in stem cell handling and culture

•experience with molecular techniques

•willingness to work with animal models and tissue, specifically pig

•ability to work independently within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team

•self-motivation, good organization and time management

•flexibility to learn new skills and develop novel approaches for analysis

•excellent knowledge of the English language, in both oral and written communication

•uttermost attention to detail

•fluent user of computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office)

•positive attitude towards working on a very challenging project

•Desired competencies/skills:

•microdissection skills

•experience in contributing to publications/presentations (inter)nationally

•ability to generate research income and grant application experience

•knowledge of Dutch is a plus, but no requirement

•driving license
